THE BRAND
MA’AKU has Indonesian origins. It's a short form of "mandiri aku" which means "I am independent".
As a Bali-based Start-Up, we are inspired by an independent lifestyle and the fascinating nature and culture of Indonesia.
We create light and travel-friendly ponchos for all kinds of occasions. There are many ways to use them: Get changed at the beach, protect yourself from the sun and wind, use them as a beach towel, or simply get comfy at home.
THE PRODUCTS
Our ponchos are available in different styles and sizes. You can customize your poncho and choose from many colors and patterns. All of our fabrics are inspired by nature. One of our values is to reduce waste so we use all fabric scraps to produce accessories and the handy waterproof bag your poncho comes with!

We are as colorful as our ponchos. Our team riders and ambassadors are from all over the world and represent our brand and our local team.

PRODUCTION
We want to give back. To the planet and to the Indonesian people. Therefore sustainability and fair trade are very important to us when it comes to producing our ponchos.
We work exclusively with small local family businesses.
Everything about our ponchos is handmade in Indonesia. From the hand-dyed or printed fabrics to the smallest label.
To avoid waste and reduce single-use plastic we produce accessories from our fabric leftovers and ship your ponchos in paper packaging.

We All our adult ponchos are the perfect companion for travel, beach, and outdoor life. They are light, quick dry, and multi-functional. Use them to get changed, as a beach towel or to relax. You can store personal and important belongings in the hidden pocket with a zipper or the comfortable front pocket.
We have a variety of different sizes, from adults to babies.

THE GIRL BEHIND THE SCENES
A few years ago a German girl found her second home in Bali.
In 2017 Meike came for a six-month break from her hectic 9 to 5 job. And ended up staying.
In Bali, she discovered and explored her love for the ocean, the simple island-life, and the Indonesian culture and its people. Living this independent and very active outdoor life the idea of MA’AKU was born right at the start of the pandemic.
It gave her a purpose by supporting the local community and businesses in Bali.
